  • FEATURE TRACTOR: Massey-Ferguson 1800 - Massey's entry into BIG 4WDs. After some testing and evaluation, the model was scheduled to be available for the 1971 year. The tractor would be produced as the 1800, which was powered by a 3160 Caterpillar engine with 180 drawbar horsepower. What follows next does not paint a pretty picture. (Don’t shoot the messenger.) Feature tractor owner: James Schlappli - Browntown, WI.
  • Ground-Roll Balers: A Short-Lived Reign. It was 1971 when Vermeer introduced the first big round baler, which was based in part on the Allis-Chalmers Rotobaler. Instead of making small bales, it used a series of wide belts to form and compress a bale that held up to 10 times more hay than any other baler on the market. It didn’t take long for at least three other manufacturers to come up with a design they claimed was much simpler, safer, and more economical
  • John Deere 4450: A Dairy Good Idea. The JD 4450 is part of the Generation II tractors first introduced with the 30 Series. Over the 20-plus year production of the Gen II tractors, there was a lot of improvement and evolution. The most important improvement was probably the Sound-Gard cab. The Sound-Gard wasn’t technically a cab, however, it was a “body" and an integral part of the tractor.
  • The Woodstock of Tractor Shows: HCOP. Read about the evolvement of HCOP and what's in store for the 2025 show, including the 1206 Roundup!
  • Iron Bull Manufacturing. While there are other manufacturers of certified ROPS systems, Iron Bull prides themselves in being the only company that provides one that looks like the OEM structure.
  • Mini Muscle: Forbis.
  • History Vault: The Ag scene from 40, 50, and 60 years ago.
