Heritage Iron Issue #51 May/June 2017
- FEATURING: John Deere 4650, one of the producers. In late-1982, JD introduced ten new models to 2,200 North American dealers at a large meeting in New Orleans. This series was upgraded from the 40 series and designed to be more productive and use less fuel for each acre worked. Feature tractor owner: Meyer Family Farm - Shorewood, IL.
- Allis-Chalmers 4W-220: An orphan among four-wheel-drive tractors. With a total production run of only 175 units, the AC 4W-220 4WD tractor could almost be considered a collector's model... or at the very least, an orphan. The irony is that AC Model 7580 that it replaced accounted for the sale of 1,610 units. So, why the big discrepancy in numbers, especially when the 4W-220 offered more features? Tractor owner: Larry Mayer - Jeffersonville, OH.
- Machinery Milestones: The tractor scene from 30, 40, and 50 years ago.
- Brooks McCormick's IH 5488. The last of the McCormick family to run International Harvester was Brooks McCormick. He became CEO of IH in the 1970s and Chairman of the Board.
- Mathews Company Grain Dryers. Mathews Company (M-C) was founded in 1954 by B.C. "Matt" Mathews. Mr. Mathews' philosophy was, "Make it easy to operate, make it safe, make it last." His first product, a flail chopper, was introduced in 1956.
