  • FEATURE TRACTOR: Versatile 300. By the early-1970s, the theme seemed to be “bigger is better.” But, that’s not true in all cases. Not every farm could accommodate a large four-wheel-drive tractor. To win over the smaller operator, Versatile created the 300. This tractor was only built for one year, but engineering used this model for research and development when designing the bi-directional tractor. Feature tractor owner: Renner Stock Farms - Belleville, IL.
  • Halogens, Cherry Bombs, and Scented Candles: Combines Used to be Cooler. The Muscle Tractor Era produced some of the coolest farm tractors ever made, but let’s not forget about the “Muscle Combines.” While there are some rare muscle tractor models, you can probably find them or similar models at shows or pulls and even working on farms today. Let’s talk combines: JD 7720 Titan II, Massey-Ferguson 850/860, 1400 New Holland, Gleaner, IH 915, and more.
  • Valley Bee: Homemade Innovation on the Skolness Farm. One very large farm located near Glyndon, MN, was operated by brothers, Henry and Art Skolness. The ambitious Skolness brothers had previous experience in building several items, including field sprayers, truck boxes, and numerous other farm implements. The brothers decided they could build their own tractor, as well.
  • 100-Horsepower Tractors: Cashing in on the Bragging Rights. The coffee table discussion about who was the first 100-horsepower tractor will never end. A lot of it comes down to, who designed it first? Who tested it first? Or even, who sold it first? Drawbar or PTO? Since this is issue 100, we’re going to cover everyone’s first 100-horsepower model according to the Nebraska Tractor Test. This is a two-wheel-drive debate, so the big boys like Big Bud, Steiger, Wagner, Versatile, etc. aren’t part of this lineup. Includes models: JD 5010, IH 1206, Allis-Chalmers D 21, Ford 8000, Massey 97, Case 1030, and others.
  • Serving Case and Case IH for 40 Years: Loren Wagner. It’s uncommon to find someone who sticks with their job for forty years in today’s environment. Those who dedicated their life to one purpose, know their job backwards and forwards. While they do exist, they are few and far between. He may not admit it, but Loren Wagner made a difference in this world through his dedication to the company, the people he worked with and the customers he helped along the way.
  • History Vault: The Ag scene from 40, 50, and 60 years ago.
