Oliver Heritage Issue #123 Oct/Nov 2024

  • FEATURING: Oliver 1955 FWA. The familiar grill of the 100 and 50 series tractors had been around for nearly a decade by 1969. Things were changing at Oliver in many ways, as a name change was taking place along with a new look. The 50 series models were out, the 55 series was in, and Oliver introduced their biggest rigid frame tractor at that time – the 1955! Feature tractor owner: Tom Cody - New Richmond, WI.
  • Cletrac Facts: the Snowfighters, Pt 2. For many years, Cletrac crawler tractors were known as reliable snow fighters; several features making them well suited for this job.
  • Floyd County Museum Archives: The XO-121 is a one-of-a-kind antique tractor housed at the Floyd County Museum, where it has been part of their collection for 37 years. As one of the best functioning tractors on site, it is brought out for special events throughout the year. When people see the XO-121 out in public, especially this past summer at Charles City’s Party in the Park celebrations, they have one question, “What is it?”
  • Meadow Green Hay: My grandparents, dad, uncles, and all their families raised grain and livestock in Central Illinois. Having cattle meant the need for hay; hay meant the need for labor, and filling several barns each summer meant all hands on deck. This story is centered on a period of time lasting from the late-1960s through the late-’70s. Those years were arguably some of the most defining for me, as well as some of the best for The Oliver Corporation.
  • Korves Oliver: Located in Waterloo, Illinois, Korves Oliver operates out of a barn built in the late-1800s right there on the family’s original farmstead. The family business was started in the mid-1990s by brothers, Victor and Robert Korves, along with Mark Korves, Victor’s son. The business has since proudly established itself as one of the largest reproduction parts manufacturers of Oliver tractors parts.
  • Korsmeyer Collection: In this world, there are collectors and then there are historians. Once in a while you’ll find someone who is both. That was the case when I had the privilege of running into the Korsmeyer family at the Alhambra 175th Anniversary Homecoming in August of this year.
  • Another Oliver User: John Kohnen. John and his dad, Willis, milked 50 cows and raised all their own feed with two Oliver 880 gas tractors and a Fleetline 66.
